Kitty Litter Cake

This recipe is from SuzieQ Cooks:

1 pk Spice cake mix
1 pk White cake mix
1 pk White sandwich cookies
1 sm Package instant vanilla pudding mix
12 sm Tootsie Rolls

Prepare cake mixes and bake according to directions. Prepare pudding mix and chill until ready to assemble. Crumble white sandwich cookies in small batches in blender. They tend to stick, so scrape often.

When cakes are cooled, crumble into a large bowl. Toss with half the cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding. Gently combine. Pour into a NEW kitty litter pan.

Put unwrapped Tootsie Rolls in a microwave safe dish three at a time and heat until soft and pliable. Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly. Repeat until you have nine, and bury them in the mixture. Sprinkle the other half of cookie crumbs over top. Heat three more Tootsie Rolls in the microwave until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with cookie crumbs. For another realistic touch you can sprinkle a few drops of yellow food coloring in one area of the cake. Serve with a new pooper scooper. Serves 10-12

That is so gross/funny! I don't know if I'm even brave enough to try that but I'm passing this link on to a friend that would do this in a heartbeat.

Here are few things I do a little differently.

Instead of white sandwich cookies, I gring up Nilla Wafers. I divide the crumbs in half, then I color one half of the crumbs blue. Then I combine the crumbs again.

Also after I melt the tootsie rolls (I use the extra long ones) I roll them on the counter into about a six inch snake. Then I coil it. It gives it an extra touch of grossness!

Love the idea of the yellow food coloring, I'll have to try that.

I'm incredibly impressed, and my 8- and 12- year olds would adore the grossosity factor, but I'm afraid that Four might become confused about the *real* kitty litter in the house. Though he'd likely only make that mistake once.
